I am a born and bred southerner and transplant to the Midwest. I read because I NEED to (as a former English major, it's in the DNA) and because I'm possibly ignoring frigid temperatures. Until summer, and then I'll just be reading outside. I also enjoy cooking, witty banter, and cheese. All the cheese. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: ardaigle's Quick Questions interview.)

Have I told you about my lord and savior, Tana French? (Bingo – Shelfie)

Faithful Place by Tana French

July 19, 2020 by cheerbrarian 2 Comments

I heart Tana French. If someone gives me a blanketed, “I’m looking for a book to read” I typically check to see if they like thrillers and if so, start bellowing “Tana French Tana French Tana Freeeeeench.” I own all of her Dublin Murder Series, shown here (if you squint). Behold, the rad bookshelf that my husband built! It goes around three of the four walls of this room. I looove it because it a) saves space b) displays our books in a fun way […]

Maybe You Should (EVERYONE SHOULD) Read This Book! (Bingo – Happy)

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

July 19, 2020 by cheerbrarian 3 Comments

Well hellooooo. I am three reviews behind which for me is an albatross of sorts that I let guilt me into not reading until I get caught up, because um, reasons?? What an appropriate book to HAPPILY dive back in with, a bit of psychotherapy. This might be my favorite book of the year WHICH MAKES ME HAPPY. I’m presently in therapy and think everyone could benefit from it. If you are similar, than you’ll likely take to this book like a duck to water. […]

Tana French Holds Up!

The Likeness by Tana French

June 18, 2020 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

My Tana French Dublin Murder Series reread continues! I can’t believe I read this 4 years ago! Time flies when you are sitting in your house staring into the abyss. But I digress. Original review below in italics with more goodness at the bottom. I received this book as one of my CBR Exchange gifts from The Chancellor (thank you!!) and was delighted to receive it. It has become a nice tradition as I received the first in the series as part of my exchange […]

Behold: Your Quarantimes Binge Read

In the Woods by Tana French

June 18, 2020 by cheerbrarian 2 Comments

“In these trying times” (said with solemn radio announcer voice) it is hard to focus on anything and reading has been a bit of an uphill climb for me. I want something that’s a bit of a distraction, something I can sink my teeth into. There is one unread Tana French book that I currently own and I’ve been saving it because she is THE BEST but then, once I read it, I have no more waiting in the reads (sob). My husband suggested I […]

Obama knew what he was talking about.

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

June 18, 2020 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

This book has been on my radar for a while for a number of reasons, one of which being that President Obama listed it on his summer reading list in 2018. (Remember when presidents would share their summer reading lists? George W. Bush had a hefty reading habit as well. The current administration hasn’t shared one. So there’s that). I’m going to kick it over to President Obama’s one-sentence summary to get this review started. “An American Marriage by Tayari Jones is a moving portrayal of […]

It’s the Chronic (WHAT) cles of Narnia

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

May 30, 2020 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

Can anyone in their 30s talk about The Chronicles of Narnia without now recalling the SNL Digital Short Lazy Sunday starring Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell? Because the minute I say the name of the series, that’s all I hear, them yelling about going to watch the movie version of the first book. As I started to write this review, I went and looked up the video and it still got a giggle, so well done to the future Mr. Jake Peralta. Buuuut anyhoo. Why […]
