I’m going to review this as a series but only count it as one review. The whole series is wonderful and the books are available in hard cover or as board books for the very little ones. This series of books by Yolen & Teague is great. I’m not really a fan of deliberately message-driven picture books. They are often heavy-handed and so boring (I’m looking at you, Berenstain Bears. Or I would be if our recent book sorting project hadn’t cleared all of your […]
Be Yourself. Everyone else is taken.
I’ve been reading a lot lately but having trouble feeling inspired to write reviews. Fortunately I never have any trouble blathering on about picture books. I’m a life long reader, grew up surrounded by books and live in a house full of children’s books. Reading is important to me. Inspiring children to love books is important to me. Even before they can read, they can love books. Crocodiles are one of my favourite animals (someone once tried to tell me that adults shouldn’t have Favourite […]
If at first you don’t succeed, try try again!
I’m thankful to all you lovely people who encouraged me not to give up on the Bridgertons and Julia Quinn. On advice of experts, I decided to try another of the alphabetically named siblings looking for love. I chose Colin, because what little I had experienced of him in the Daphne book appealed to me. I had my suspicions that Penelope, who was mentioned in passing as an unattractive but well- liked girl, would appear in a later book, so imagine my delight when she […]
So now that I read Romance…
In my new found quest to explore the world of Romance, I’ve decided to sample the works of other recommended authors. Having started at the peak with Courtney Milan might have a detrimental effect on my opinions, but I’m committed to trying. I think I have to try a bunch of different things to figure out what I like and don’t like. This one seems to be an “innocent girl saves Rake with her magical love” story, which I now know is not a story […]
I read Romance now you guys
I’ve read the occasional romance novel over the years, to greater or lesser degrees of enjoyment but never really been captured. I’m caught now, though! I think I needed some Courtney Milan in my life. After reading many reviews here at CBR I decided to take the plunge. I read Unclaimed in an evening. The next day I read Unraveled, the next day I moved on to The Duchess War (because it was free) then A Kiss for Midwinter. I can’t remember the last time […]
International Princesses Day
In honour of International Women’s Day, here is a deeply feminist childrens’ book. Elizabeth is a beautiful princess who lives in a castle and is going to marry a handsome Prince called Ronald. Unfortunately, a dragon destroys her castle and makes off with Ronald, leaving Elizabeth no choice but to put on an old paper bag she finds and follow the trail of destruction to rescue Ronald. Spoiler Alert: She succeeds. She outwits the dragon and rescues Ronald. Ronald is not properly grateful and […]
