Catticus Finch's Reviews:

A dated serial killer drama

Sacred Sins by Nora Roberts

July 9, 2021 by Catticus Finch 1 Comment

I haven’t read a lot of books by Nora Roberts, despite her prolific output.  I borrowed this one, as it appeared to be a stand alone in comparison to most of her trilogies, and I didn’t realize at first that it was published way back in the late 1980s!  I suppose it was a testament to the story that it didn’t jump out at me immediately that there were no cell phones or Google searches.  However, that doesn’t mean it was all good! The main […]

“When you’re documenting everything you do, you stop living life for yourself and start living it as a performance for others. You’re never in the actual moment, just the response to the moment.”

Crime and the impoverished young woman

Miss Tonks Turns to Crime by Marion Chesney

May 5, 2021 by Catticus Finch Leave a Comment

This was an odd little book.  It’s book number two in the Poor Relations series set in the Regency period, originally published under Marion Chesney, aka M.C. Beaton.  I didn’t read book one, and based on this, I feel I haven’t missed much.  The premise of the series is that several “poor relations” have banded together to run a hotel, which had done quite well but then there was a fire so  financial straits are desperate again.  They draw straws to see which one of […]

Three books – all different

One of Us is Next by Karen M. McManus

House of Gucci by Sara Gay Forden

The Age of Witches by Louisa Morgan

April 9, 2021 by Catticus Finch Leave a Comment

I’ve been reading a lot lately, and trying now to catch up on reviews.  This is kind of an eclectic mix of genres – YA, real life drama and fantasy. One of Us is Next This is book 2 after One of Us is Lying which I enjoyed.  This one isn’t quite as absorbing, but still enjoyable.  It’s a YA book, with the main characters in high school.  There are some younger siblings of the characters from the first book, along with some new additions.  […]

These murder club meetings are becoming a regular thing. We need a new name, though.

The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide. The five students who land in detention for breaking the “no cellphone” rule are: Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule. Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess. Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing. Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher. And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of […]
