Many moons ago I took part in Cannonball Read II, under the name Teabelly. A lot has changed since then, and I now have five year old twin girls. I'm not getting as much reading done, but I'm hoping to make a half Cannonball at least.

Bingo square: Hold Steady On the Second Sabbat of Twelfthmoon, in the city of Weep, a girl fell from the sky. Lazlo Strange has been fascinated by the city of Weep since he was a boy. Bingo Square: Strange Worlds Viv is an orc who’s tired of the adventuring life of bounties and bloodshed. She’s ready for something else. Taking her savings and a magical doo-dad that may or may not bring your heart’s desire, she sets off to the city of Thune to make her fresh start. Which for Viv is opening a coffee shop. Which would be fine, if people there knew what coffee was. But as Viv starts to build her shop, something amazing happens. People show up. […]

Maybe not all things need to be published

Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman by Alan Rickman

July 23, 2023 by Carriejay 10 Comments

Bingo square: You Are Here (Library book) Alan Rickman was a wonderful actor, in some of my favourite films. Die Hard, of course, his first film role. But also Galaxy Quest, Sense & Sensibility. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He kept diaries for many years, and after his death from pancreatic cancer in 2016, they were published. They are often short entries, notes on where he is, what he’s doing, who he’s with. Often on a plane, battling jetlag, on to the next piece of […]

I Want to go Outside

Wool by Hugh Howey

July 23, 2023 by Carriejay 2 Comments

Bingo square: Dwelling At some point in the future, humanity has been doomed and the last remnants of it live below ground in the silo. 144 floors, ranging from up top, through the mids, to the down deep. No one goes outside. And if you ask, you get your wish but can never come back. It’s a death sentence, as the outside is toxic. The small view the inhabitants of the silo can see through a view screen becomes corroded over time, and those who […]

June 24, 2023 by Carriejay Leave a Comment

Devon is a book eater, and part of an old Family that lives in a manor house on the Yorkshire Moors. Book eaters do as you imagine, eat books for sustenance and take on the information found within. The Family are old fashioned and patriarchal. As one of the few girls being born to book eaters these days, Devon is given fairy tales to eat. Nothing that would spark her imagination to want more from her life. Once she comes of age, she will be […]

You Are Not Alone by Cariad Lloyd

June 6, 2023 by Carriejay 2 Comments

When Cariad Lloyd was 15 her dad died of pancreatic cancer. Years later, she started Griefcast, a podcast dealing honestly and openly about grief, in all its forms. This book comes out of what she’s learned through her own journey with grief and from all those she’s spoken to. It’s for people who have lost someone they loved or who know someone who has and would like to do better in navigating it. Lloyd discusses the loss of her father at a young age, but […]
