I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.)

Marty’s Memoir

March 1, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

Martin Short is one of those people that, whether you’ve seen any of his work, you just know who he is. From his 80s heyday the only film I’ve seen is Three Amigos, which came out two years before I was born, but was a favorite of my father’s. He’s probably not the most famous/ recognizable face from his comedy class of Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, John Candy, Dan Akroyd etc but he has had a prolific career as someone willing to go the extra […]

No-no-Notorious

February 25, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

“For some reason, people repeatedly have asked RBG when she thought there would be enough women on the court. The question is asinine, her answer effective: ‘Where there are nine.” Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a champion for equal rights long before she was an Internet sensation. This biography was a lot of fun, it flavors the facts with some of the memes made of Ginsburg in the last few years. It seemed a timely read following the death of fellow Justice, Antonin Scalia, who was […]

“I am not much different now. I have never wanted to grow up and stop playing.”

After the tediousness of Tesla I needed something fun and enjoyable, My Mother Was Nuts fit the bill nicely. I know Penny Marshall from Nick & Nite reruns of Laverne and Shirley as well as A League of Their Own but it was nice to get to know a little bit more about her. My Mother Was Nuts was funny and honest, Marshall has a lot of crazy stories about her time in Hollywood and she is really open about some of her experiences. She […]

Man out of time

February 16, 2016 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

My husband loves Nikola Tesla; our dog’s name is Tesla Coil (Tes) and we have a cat named Edison (Eddie). I picked up Tesla, Man out of time to read more about the man my husband admires. With Elon Musk’s Tesla Motor Company bring the Tesla name back in the mainstream there are a lot more people nowadays that know the name and know some of the wrongs committed against Tesla (primarily by Thomas Edison). Tesla was a Serbian electrical engineer who emigrated to the […]

The Two Loves of Carole Radziwill’s Life

February 7, 2016 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I realize that I am being charged with this mission. I will have to take control, because I am his wife now. … Anthony wants nothing to do with any of it … We silently agree that he will have the cancer and I will take care of it. In her memoir What Remains, Carole Radziwill chronicles her brief marriage to Anthony Radziwill as well as the devastating loss of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Radziwill was born into a working class family; she moved to New York […]

Keeping up with the Walkers

February 1, 2016 by Caitlin_D 3 Comments

Another instance of me coming late to the party. Why do I hesitate to read what so many of my fellow Cannonballers recommend? So Max Walker is the “golden boy” of his school; he’s the star of the football team, he’s good looking and he gets along with his family. His mother wants to keep her family as perfect as possible and is concerned that her husband has opened their lives up to the public by running for Parliament. The Walkers have been hiding a […]
