I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.)

No Hugging, No Learning

The first episode of Seinfeld, titled The Seinfeld Chronicles and more of a “special” than a series pilot, premiered when I was about 18 months old and the much maligned series finale aired a few months after I turned 10. Learning these dates astonished me because, while I knew Seinfeld was a”90s” show, this means there is basically no chance I saw a single episode “live”- at least not intentionally. My parents watched Seinfeld but I can’t imagine them enjoying it with their tween children. Regardless, I’ve seen every […]

Everything is Improved with an English Accent

The Versions of Us was billed as a mixture between One Day and Sliding Doors which was enough to get me interested. In all three versions Eva, a Cambridge college student in 1958, has an issue with her bicycle. In two of the three time lines she is rescued by Jim, a law student who would rather be studying art, and in the third they go their separate ways down the street. In both instances that Eva and Jim meet Eva breaks up with her actor boyfriend, David, but in […]

“Dear Y.A., don’t let the bastards get you down! Your friend, Chick Lit”

December 4, 2016 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

When I was in college I didn’t read for “fun” a lot. Between the required reading I had for the handful of literature classes I took, the assigned reading from textbooks, drinking and dorm wide Grey’s Anatomy viewing parties there wasn’t a lot of time. Chick-lit slowly welcomed me back into the world of reading for pleasure. Jennifer Weiner, Lauren Weisberger, Jen Lancaster and Anna Maxted reminded me that reading was fun and my bookshelves are still dotted in pink and green from that time in my […]

“I lost a Tony award to Broadway legend Audra McDonald when I was twelve so I’ve been a bitter bitch since before my first period.”

Anna Kendrick is one of those people who I probably like more for their real world personality (Instagram and Twitter) than her body of work. I enjoyed the first Pitch Perfect but was disappointed by the sequel and my husband will never forgive me for dragging him to see Into the Woods. I’ve only soberly seen the first Twilight (although I believe I’ve been in a room showing the next two in the series) but I remember being pleasantly surprised by her performance in Up in the Air since she was […]

CBR8 book exchange- thanks sister coyote

December 1, 2016 by Caitlin_D 3 Comments

Clearly Sister Coyote had a sixth sense. I was literally packing for a road trip when amazon delivered my gift exchange books. My poor husband will have to suffer through Oklahoma and Arkansas with little conversation now! Happy Christmahanukkakwanicaa to you all!

Peach Pie is a little too Saccharine for my Tastes

November 28, 2016 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Joanna Gordon has been living life in Atlanta as an out and proud lesbian for most of her teenage life but that all changes when her pastor father marries a woman from a traditional Baptist family who moves the whole family to a small town in Southern Georgia. Her father asks if she doesn’t mind laying low (ie going back into the closet) for the year in exchange for a youth radio program and permission to go on a wild summer trip. While she struggles […]
