I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.)

Double Cannonball with a Bingo twist!

My Boyfriend is a Bear by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

October 26, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Illustrated My Boyfriend is a Bear, Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris (2 Stars) To be honest graphic novels are probably the most “not my wheelhouse” genre for me but since an illustrated book was required for Bingo My Boyfriend is a Bear checks off this square instead. I chose My Boyfriend because it was written by Pamela Ribon and since I am not a comic reader I didn’t want to read the first of a long series I had no intentions to complete. Obviously one has to […]

CBR Bingo: Not My Wheelhouse, I Love This and Reader’s Choice

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

October 23, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR 11 Bingo- Not My Wheelhouse 99 Percent Mine – Sally Thorne I chose a romance novel, Thorne’s The Hating Game, for last year’s Not My Wheelhouse and while I enjoyed it the romance genre floodgates were not opened for me so I chose another kissing book for the same square this year. Darcy Barrett and her twin brother, Jamie, inherited their grandmother’s tear-down of a cottage which has caused some estrangement between the siblings. Their childhood best friend, Tom, has been hired as the contractor […]

Non-fiction review dump (and two CBR11 Bingos)

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

Notes from a Young Black Chef by Kwame Onwuachi, Joshua David Stein

Naturally Tan by Tan France

Disrupted: My Misadventure in the Start-Up Bubble by Dan Lyons

The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America by Erik Larson

October 11, 2019 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

Whoo-hoo! Two non-fiction books gets me two more squares and two Bingos! I may not manage a black-out before the end of the month but I am finally making some headway in this game. CBR 11 Bingo: Award Winner The Devil in the White City- Erik Larson Y’all, I read this book in July and then completely forgot about it. In my defense The Devil in the White City has the dubious honor of being the book I was reading when I found out I was pregnant and […]

The One Where I continue to catch up on Bingo squares!

I'll Be There for You: The One about Friends by Kelsey Miller

China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan

September 27, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR11 Bingo: Cannonballer Says I’ll Be There for You: The One about Friends; Kelsey Miller Friends has been all over the internet this month in anticipation of the 25th anniversary of Thursday Night’s Must See TV darling. Kelsey Miller’s charming look into the television series has been on my list since my sister, Badkittyuno, read it a few months back but she is far from the only Cannonballer recommending this one. “Some things don’t change. Friends is a reminder of that, and that’s why so many of […]

CBR11 Bingo: The Collection

Wallflower at the Orgy by Nora Ephron

September 24, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I think the only appropriate thing to read after a book heavily influenced by Nora Ephron is a collection written by Ms Ephron herself. “The image of the journalist as wallflower at the orgy has been replaced by the journalist as the life of the party.” Wallflower at the Orgy is a collection of articles Ephron wrote in the late 1960’s and early 70’s. You can tell that this collection was relevant when it was originally published but unfortunately the articles didn’t age well. For the […]

Waiting for Tom Hanks (a.k.a shut up Annie you don’t deserve a movie star)

Waiting for Tom Hanks (Waiting for Tom Hanks, #1) by Kerry Winfrey

September 24, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR11 Bingo: Two Heads are Better Than One Caitlin_D: So when I started to read this book I knew immediately that you need to read it too. And then I remembered I needed someone to write a review with me!! Badkittyuno: I love rom-coms. (Caitlin_D: we both do) In fact, one of my favorite things about my fiance is that he is 100% willing to watch silly romantic movies with me. And as a child of the 90s (and a huge Nora Ephron fan), I […]
