I’ve read every book on the CBR Bingo “So Popular” list excluding Divergent, which I have no interest in, and I’ve already read and reviewed Bossypants and Gone Girl this year! I imagine I am not the only person in this particular boat and I look forward to everyone’s re-reads of these popular books. I decided to go with The Martian because I had heard good things about the audio-book and figured if I was doing a re-read I would change up the medium. “Actually, I was the very lowest ranked member of […]
CBR Bingo: Not My Wheelhouse
There are not many genres I consider “Not in my Wheelhouse” but I don’t think I have reviewed a single kissing book during my time as a Cannonballer so I took to Twitter and the overwhelming suggestion y’all gave me was for The Hating Game. Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other; they spend their workday, in their shared office, playing passive aggressive games in hopes of irritating the other person. A new position at their publishing company is created which puts them at even […]
“No matter what your size, you are a sexy goddess. Remember that.”
When my husband saw me reading Ashley Graham’s memoir he asked who she was and why she got to write a book. I explained to him she was a plus size model who has gotten a lot of recognition for her body positive message as well as being the first plus size model to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. His response was “so she is just a regular hot person?” because I was lucky to marry someone who prefers a little meat on […]
“You can’t save people from the world. There’s nowhere else to take them.”
The Girl With All the Gifts is a bit slow moving at first. We start with Melanie, a precocious young girl who is being raised in captivity on a military base. She, along with two dozen other children, have various teacher who give them a variety of lessons. Ms Justineau is Melanie’s favorite teacher in part because she reads Greek myths to the class. But this isn’t a regular school; the children are kept locked up in cells and they attend their classes bound to wheelchairs. […]
CBR Bingo- Underrepresented
Sandra Uwiringyimana’s memoir, How Dare the Sun Rise, was on my radar after reading the similar, equally heartbreaking, The Girl Who Smiled Beads so the Bingo category “Underrepresented” was the perfect excuse to bump it up on my TBR. Sandra and her family are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo but their tribe, the Banyamulenge, have Rwandan roots; neither country claims the Banyamulenge which has led to generations of discrimination and war. “It was light out when we found them, the sun rising slowly in a pale blue sky, casting […]
“You are not the authority on what makes others feel loved.”
I was a latecomer to This is Us; I knew the show was a critical and commercial success but I didn’t begin watching the first season until they were nearly halfway through airing season two. Chrissy Metz has received a lot of well deserved praise for her role as Kate Pearson (although I absolutely cannot stand her character’s now husband, Toby) and has parlayed her newfound success into a memoir. Metz is a phenomenal actor and it is hard to believe that This is Us […]
