I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.)

CBR Bingo: Home, Something, Home

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

The stars at night – are big and bright Deep in the heart of Texas. The prairie sky – is wide and high Deep in the heart of Texas. I have lived in North Texas my whole life, excluding my Freshman year of college where I went all the way to Oklahoma, but I traveled a little farther south to Austin with Pamela Ribbon’s Why Girls are Weird because I’ve already read all the books about JFK’s assassination and was at a loss for what to read for […]

CBR Bingo: Listicles

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Leah on the Off Beat is on numerous listicles for 2018 but for CBR Bingo purposes it is located on BookBub’s 20 of the Biggest Teen Books for Adults coming in Spring 2018. Albertalli revisits the Creekwood social circle of Simon Spier with the narration falling into the less capable hands of  his friend Leah Burke. Leah is an overweight, Harry Potter obsessed drummer who has always known she was bisexual but failed to come out to her best friend Simon even after he had a dramatic outing […]

CBR Bingo: Fahrenheit 451

August 31, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I’ve been meaning to reread To Kill a Mockingbird for a couple years now; CBR Bingo’s Fahrenheit 451 category was the perfect excuse to finally get around to rereading Harper Lee’s classic. According to the American Library Association To Kill a Mockingbird, which was first published in 1960, was the seventh most banned book in 2017. Most of the bans against Mockingbird come from its use of profanity and racial slurs as well as the adult themes of rape and incest but I think sometimes the most important books are […]

CBRBingo: Two Heads are Better than One

August 31, 2018 by Caitlin_D 3 Comments

Everyone welcome back BadKittyUno! For CBR Bingo’s Two Heads are Better than One square I dragged my darling sister out of retirement to help me write my review of The Autobiography of Gucci Mane (which, for all his clever album titles, is the most pedestrian title for an autobiography possible). We have no idea how to write a review together so please enjoy this semi-coherent arrangements of thoughts we had while reading. CD: Gucci Mane looks exactly how someone named Gucci Mane should look. BKU: That’s exactly […]

CBR Bingo: Brain Candy

August 23, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Celebrity memoirs are an escapism go to of mine and I am sort of surprised I didn’t already tag one of them as my “brain candy” bingo square. But since I had forgotten about this category while reading Chrissy Metz and Ashley Graham’s respective memoirs H. Jon Benjamin’s Failure is an Option gets the official tag. H. Jon Benjamin, the H standing for Henry although his friends and family have already referred to him as Jon, recounts his life’s failures in this quasi-memoir. I listened to the audio […]

CBR Bingo: White Whale

August 21, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I feel like I am going to catch some grief for having Good Omens as my White Whale but I purchased it in November of last year and started it three times before finally completing the whole thing while on the beach last week. Unfortunately I was also drinking rum cocktails while I read so I may be a little foggy on the complete story. Good Omens is quite the literary achievement; the two authors, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, have a seamless flow and you never get the […]
