I skipped CBR for 2020 because I was expecting my first child and knew time would be finite. Then the world imploded and I missed the crap out of y'all. Plus I read so much less without y'all's recommendations! (Learn more about this Cannonballer: Caitlin_D's Quick Questions interview.)

If Scott Kelly can vote in the midterms elections from ISS then you can vote in November from Earth

September 28, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

Misha’s and my mission to spend a year on ISS is unprecedented. A normal mission to the space station lasts five to six months, so scientists have a good deal of data about what happens to the human body in space for that length of time. But very little is known about what happens after month six. The symptoms might get precipitously worse in the ninth month, for instance, or they might level off. We don’t know, and there is only one way to find […]

CBR Bingo: Cover Art

September 27, 2018 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

I actually struggled with the Cover Art Bingo square because a lot of times I pick books without ever looking at the cover. Review a book you pick solely on the title? I could write a dozen. I figured I’d know the book when I saw it (heh) and sure enough I was scrolling through Barnes & Nobel’s website during their Labor Day Sale and came across My Girls. At first I didn’t see the title or author just the photograph that takes up the bottom […]

I’m glad Rachel Hollis said she doesn’t read her book reviews anymore…

September 27, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I had multiple people recommend Rachel Hollis’s Girl Wash Your Face but it was not for me. It probably isn’t for your either unless you’re a wealthy white woman who is incredibly devout as well as a bit holier than thou. Hollis has artfully mastered the humble brag in Girl Wash Your Face and the whole book is congratulating herself on basically having it all while pretending that she struggles with the same struggles regular folk do and that No, Really she doesn’t have it all. I should note […]

CBR Bingo (2!): Cannonballer Halbs Says

September 27, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

The opening paragraph of fellow Cannonballer Halb’s review of The Madman and the Professor sealed the deal that this would be the choice for my “Cannonballer Says” Bingo square, “Fans of Comedy Central’s tv show “Drunk History” may be familiar with the story of Dr. William Minor: The Civil War doctor showed signs of struggling with mental health during and after the war (how could one not), and moved to London for a fresh start. Unfortunately, Dr. Minor suffered from the beliefs that all kinds of people […]

CBR Bingo- Delicious

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

I knew as soon as I saw this category that I wanted to read internet icon Chrissy Teigan’s cookbook Cravings for this particular square but I struggled with this review for weeks… How does one properly review a cookbook? She cooks! My initial plan was to drag my parents over for a hearty meal of John’s fried chicken, garlic smashed potatoes and roasted carrots but those plans turned into my mother coming over for brunch this weekend and my tackling of Chrissy’s dutch baby pancake and cheesy cheeseless […]

CBR Bingo- BINGO! Throwback Thursday

September 9, 2018 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

So I have been playing Bingo all wrong. I’ve been aiming, and have a plan for, a blackout but I haven’t been paying attention to actually achieving 5 in a row traditional Bingos until now! I haven’t read Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs since before I joined Cannonball Read but I read it a few times in high school and college so it seemed like a good choice for Throwback Thursday. Since I’ve read Burroughs’s memoir numerous times I opted for the audiobook version for […]
