I like books, but my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Disclaimer: I do not actually eat books.

“Some days were worse, but really, all of them were the same, because every day at Latham was a sick day…”

This YA book is set in an alternate world where tuberculosis is once again a major threat to the population. The new strain is resistant to the drugs used as treatment and is highly contagious. As a result, patients are once again sent to sanatoriums for quarantine and treatment. In Extraordinary Means, we focus on Latham House. Teenager Lane is sent there after developing TB. He goes in a tightly-laced, straight-A, goody goody. Once on the inside, he meets Sadie and her group of misfits. […]

Made You Up is about a girl named Alex who has schizophrenia. After changing schools after an incident, she is surprised to encounter a boy named Miles. They had an encounter as kids, though Alex assumed that he was in her imagination. Her main goal is to get into college and graduate without any more episodes. She knows that if anything else happens, her mother will admit her to a mental hospital. Alex narrates the story, which is interesting because she knows about her illness […]

“I don’t want you getting hurt.” “Everybody gets hurt,” she said. “You know that.”

I really loved this book. It’s so magical and romantical! By all accounts I shouldn’t be into this. I’m a grown up, gosh darn it! I need to file taxes and run errands! Yet this book makes me want to declare my undying love, shout at the nonbelievers, “You wouldn’t understand! You’ve never been in love!” It’s about two families of performers. The Palomas have a mermaid show and the Corbeaus perform as fairies on high tree branches. The families have a long-standing feud. Lace […]

There’s this virtual reality game environment called MEEP (I have no idea what that stands for, and I think I forgot halfway through the book). People become absorbed in the game, so absorbed that they don’t want to come out again. It’s up to Levellers like Nixy to drag them back to reality. In her newest challenge, Nixy has to enter MEEP to find the son of the game’s inventor. He is lost in the game, and to make the situation more urgent, he left […]

This is the sequel to Landry Park, which is a dystopian tale of nuclear power, class warfare, and debutante balls. The story was about Madeline Landry trying to figure out who attacked her friend. She learns about the Rootless people, the lower class who change the nuclear reactors in the manor houses. There are a lot of revelations being revealed. In the sequel, Madeline Landry is back to solve another mystery. This time…things get deadly. The heirs of the Gentry’s elite are being killed. Madeline […]
