You guys. Reading this book was a chore, and that’s a crime, because Madeleine L’Engle is such a fantastic writer. I’ve only read this once before, and I remember really disliking it before, but because I’m a completionist, blah blah blah, I had to read the whole sequence. So I read it. And here we go.

When we read The Doomsday Book for Book Club, I was excited about the time travel aspect, though disappointed in the execution and plotting of it. So I was delighted to revisit my favorite in the L’Engle series, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, which features a move through time in order to save the universe from nuclear warfare (and yes, this book is a little dated by that feature, but it doesn’t matter in the end). Because I borrowed a ton of L’Engle books from the library, I had to return to my shelves to the Time books, which I already owned, in order to read through the three sequences involving the Murrys, the O’Keefes, and the Austins. I’ve only read through the Time (Murry) sequence once, and only Meet the Austins and A Ring of Endless Light (just barely behind Swiftly Tilting Planet and A Wrinkle in Time as favorite L’Engle books) from the Austin saga. I’m embarking on a Madeleine L’Engle re-read. Glorious, I know. I’ve read through the Time Quintet and A Ring of Endless Light, but I’ve not read her sequence involving the Murrys, O’Keefes, and Austins, so I’m looking forward to all the books. Because I’m a completionist, I’m starting from the beginning. Part of my library stack-beast is comprised of L’Engle series books that I don’t already own, so I thought starting from the beginning would be best. Oh, and what a beginning it is.
