But wait, there’s more…

The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag by Alan Bradley

May 28, 2022 by Bibliophile Leave a Comment

But wait, there’s more… Flavia De Luce is back! Thought you had seen the last of her? Well, think again! The Weed That Strings the Hangman‘s Bag by Alan Bradley is the sequel to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (see review here). To start, this was a good sequel. It had all the elements you loved from the first book, but it wasn’t redundant! I usually prefer the first book of the series, and the same applies here, but I still loved this […]

Mediocre at best

Linked by Gordon Korman

May 28, 2022 by Bibliophile Leave a Comment

I’m going to start this review with a warning. The book summary makes it sound really good and really interesting, but I didn’t like the book. I thought that the plot was underdeveloped and that the characters were underdeveloped. It was overall pretty boring, in my opinion. Linked by Gordon Korman is set in a small, quiet town in Colorado. But, something horrible happens. The school gets vandalized by a swastika. Nobody can believe that a symbol of such hate would end up in their […]

Who did it?

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley

May 28, 2022 by Bibliophile 1 Comment

“I wish I could say I was afraid, but I wasn’t. Quite the contrary. This was by far the most interesting thing that had ever happened to me in my entire life.” The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley is a murder mystery set in the small town of Bishops Lacey in the 1950s English countryside. Flavia De Luce is an 11-year-old aspiring chemist (with a passion for poison). At Buckshaw, the once-grand home of the De Luce family, there is […]

Very Sweet (pun intended) Mystery

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass

April 25, 2022 by Bibliophile Leave a Comment

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass is a mystery set at Life Is Sweet candy factory. This book is set in 4 different perspectives,  that of Logan (the candymaker’s son), Philip (the rude boy in a suit and tie who is always scribbling in his notebook),  Miles (the strange but sweet boy with a lot of strange allergies) and Daisy (the cheerful girl who can lift a fifty-pound lump of taffy without even breaking a sweat). With each new chapter and perspective, you discover new information […]

Sequel to Furthermore

Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi

April 25, 2022 by Bibliophile Leave a Comment

Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi is the sequel to a fantasy book Furthermore, which I reviewed earlier. To recap,  Furthermore is a fantasy book for ages 9-12. Set in a magical place called Ferenwood, Furthermore follows 12-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow a girl deprived of love, care, and color. It is Ferenwood tradition for all 12-year-olds to “surrender” their magical talent. Based on their magical talent, they will be assigned a task. Whichwood does involve Alice and Oliver, the main characters from Furthermore, but the main character […]
