Beth Ellen's Reviews:

Yet another fabulous CBR recommended book!

November 19, 2015 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

Oh, my fellow Cannonballers, you really do have the best taste around! Thanks to some rave reviews from ModernLove, badkittyuno, and narfna I put this on my library hold list. It came in right away, and from the first page I had trouble putting it down. This is a harrowing story of integration in Virginia in the late 1950s, and while not about real people Ms. Talley clearly did a lot of research. The story of Sarah Dunbar and classmates in this fictional town of […]

A new contemporary Kleypas

November 9, 2015 by Beth Ellen 8 Comments

So Lisa Kleypas is one of the reigning queens of romance novel writing. She’s got some of the best wit around, and her smolder is top notch. Therefore no matter what she writes, I will eventually read. This time it’s Brown-Eyed Girl her contemporary romance published in August as part of her Travis series. This time it’s Avery Crosslin, wedding planner extraordinaire, and Joe Travis, last of the Travis kids to get a book. Avery is an up and coming wedding planner with her sister […]

A love letter to Rainbow Rowell

November 2, 2015 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

Dear Ms. Rowell, I discovered your books thanks to the lovely readers here at the Cannonball Read way back during CBR V. I picked up Attachments one day on a whim at Barnes and Noble that year, went home, read it in 6 hours, bawled my eyes out, and have since never looked back. You write some of the most compelling and real characters around, and every book feels like a hug from a best friend. When I saw many, many months ago that you […]

A delightful second essay collection

October 31, 2015 by Beth Ellen Leave a Comment

I did this one as an audiobook, and it is a testament to how delightful Mindy is that I chose to listen instead of my continuous loop of the Hamilton soundtrack. It currently takes a lot to knock out that particular gem out of rotation. And yet Mindy succeeded by being her charming, quirky self. Another collection of essays similar in vein to her first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (which I loved), this one is obviously an older, more mature Mindy. For […]

The Romance of a Legend

October 21, 2015 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

So to start can we just begin with how perfect this cover is? It’s everything one wants from a romance: so many feelings and emotions are tied up in that cover. Anywho, I haven’t read any reviews for this one yet, because 1) I knew I’d be reading and reviewing it myself and 2) I wanted to try to sort out my own thoughts from emotions before getting wrapped up in everyone else’s. This is the story we’ve all been waiting for: Olivia Eversea and […]

A challenging new adult romance

October 16, 2015 by Beth Ellen 2 Comments

Okay, so I finished this one last night. I don’t know if I have my head fully wrapped around it, but I need a space to try to get my thoughts in order. First though, what is up with that cover? Is that supposed to be our hero, because he looks like a douchenozzle. Just a side note. Really though, so far I have loved Sarina Bowen’s books. She seems to be tackling the new genre of New Adult with aplomb in wonderfully combining romance […]
