So when ModernLove recommends a new young adult novel, you better believe it’s going on the list. When she raved about this one, I immediately added it to my library holds list. I was super excited, and then I received it. The blurb on the cover was, “A Holden Caufield for a new generation”. There is no worse book boner-killer out there (sorry for the crudeness, but seriously…). Catcher in the Rye is on my serious SERIOUS hate list. As in if you like it, […]
Australian mysteries that weren’t all that mysterious
Last year I delved into the library of Liane Moriarty. Big Little Lies was fantastic and The Husband’s Secret was solid. I never could finish The Hypnotist’s Love Story so her books kind of fell to the back burner. Enter a 2 for 1 audible sale, and a lot of menial work tasks that are best done with headphones. The Last Anniversary is the story of Scribbly Gum Island and its residents. There’s Sophie Honeywell who takes up residence after being mysteriously left “Aunt” Connie’s […]
The Bridgertons: Part Infinity
As many of my reviews begin this way, it’s a bit repetitive, but honestly thank you yet again fellow CBRs for letting me know this book even existed. I read the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn a few years ago thanks to recommendations on here (this was before I participated and just quietly lurked). I highly enjoyed them, so when I found out that Ms. Quinn had written second epilogues to all of her stories I immediately put on hold for some wonderful, light fun. […]
A Gobstopper of a Novel
Thank you CBR book-club for forcing me to read outside of my usual genres. I usually read 1-2 science fiction books a year to appease Mr. Beth Ellen (it’s his favorite genre), but he gets to choose them so it’s always to his taste. I really enjoyed reading further into the genre, especially as I’m a sucker for time travel into the past. Doomsday book is two stories: it’s the story of Kirvin, an historian, traveling back to the 14th century to learn more about […]
I have Survived (quite happily!) the Survivors’ Club
So seven books in I have finally finished the Survivors’ Club series by Mary Balogh. As the final book was just published last week it appears I timed this out quite well in the reading of these over the past few months. The series, as a whole, has had some ups and downs, but overall it’s definitely a winner (especially if you’re in the mood for more conversation as romance and less saucy times). Our final book is the story of George, Duke of Stanbrook […]
In War and Love Stories
So Ellepkay continues to just send me Carla Kelly books without asking if I want them or not. Turns out, she continues to be right in that I want them and will happily read them all! This time we have In Love and War a collection of four short stories that take place around-ish the Napoleonic Wars/War of 1812. These four stories are unlike a lot of romance on the market these days. In the first story the heroine is a Quaker and the hero […]
