I don’t even know where to start with this book. I loved it. I absolutely loved it. I even read some negative reviews of the book and, while they were well-reasoned and I could absolutely see where they were coming from…I don’t care. This book was everything I loved about A Darker Shade of Magic but, unlike that one, this one did hit me right in the feels like, if I can be a total douchebag and quote myself, AN AXE TO THE HEART. I […]
Look into your eyes and the sky’s the limit
Disclaimer: I have legit read almost nothing but fantasy/magical novels since the beginning of 2016. It’s fun, but all of the magic is sort of running together, so please forgive me if I get anything wrong. I think this ended up on my TBR list because of that Best of 2015 Fantasy list I saw earlier in the year, and I’m so glad it did. Though it was slow to draw me in, I eventually reached a point where I just didn’t want to stop […]
Look at where you are. Look at where you started. The fact that you’re alive is a miracle.
It seems silly to try to summarize this novel. For a couple of reasons. One, because it’s a story that’s based on a fictional character from another fictional novel (meaning it’s a story made up by a character in a made up story). Two, because everyone who is familiar with Rainbow Rowell, and particularly her novel, Fangirl, already knows all about this novel so trying to describe it feels totally unnecessary. Especially given how many words have already been spilled all over the internet about […]
That is essentially, exactly the way it happened
I read this book for two reasons: 1) Ashley (narfna) recommended it and 2) the main characters are obsessed with The X-Files, an obsession I, too, shared when I was their age. Rory and Lula are best friends who live in a small Southern town and have much in common, but what they really bond over is The X-Files. Both have been abandoned by at least one parent (Lula by both, Rory by his father), though Lula lives with her loving grandparents while Rory is […]
History has its eyes on you
I dug this book. I wasn’t sure at first, because it was another novel where the heroine is forced into a new situation because of DESTINY and has to learn how to deal, etc. But guys, there is so much to like here. For instance: This heroine (Kelsea) has her shit together. She’s smart, stubborn, and brave, and does what she thinks is right, even if it’s not easy. She’s not beautiful. The heroines in these novels are always the most (understated) beautiful women the […]
Raise a glass to the four of us, tomorrow there’ll be more of us
Soooooooooo, I definitely thought this was the last book in the series while I was reading it. But NOPE. I’m not sure I’ll read more, though. I mean, there’s more story there, for sure, but it also felt kind of…complete. I’m not sure I even want to read any more. I’ve enjoyed these books but I’m not sure I’m tied up in them enough to continue. Reading the reviews of this book on Goodreads only cemented that fact. People over there are REALLY REALLY into […]
