Plum Rains by Andromeda Romano-Lax

November 5, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

(4 stars) Plum Rains by Andromeda Romano-Lax I read this on ClaireBadger’s recommendation (ClaireBadger, you are correct — Andromeda Romano-Lax has the coolest name EVER) and really enjoyed it. It took a little bit to get me hooked, but once it did — man, I couldn’t put this one down. Set about 10 years in the future, Plum Rains introduces us to a version of Japan only slightly different than our own. Technology and society have evolved, of course, and the biggest change as demonstrated […]

Quadruple Cannonball!

To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers

The Institute by Stephen King

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language by Amanda Montell

October 23, 2019 by badkittyuno 3 Comments

Woo hoo! I hit 208 books this weekend. Here are the last 4 books I read, a nice mix of my favorite things: Becky Chambers, Stephen King, Christina Lauren, and a book about linguistics! (5stars) To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers I really love Becky Chambers’s writing — the subject matter (space!) is so fresh and interesting, but the characters at the center are so realistic and well-written (even when they’re not human). I was thrilled to discover that Chambers released a novella […]

A mystery, a thriller, and two collections

The Sentence is Death (Hawthorne #2) by Anthony Horowitz

I'll Never Tell by Catherine McKenzie

Full Throttle by Joe Hill

Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory by Raphael Bob-Waksberg

(4 stars) The Sentence is Death (Hawthorne #2) by Anthony Horowitz I really like Anthony Horowitz. His mystery novels are such incredible homages to the larger concept of A Mystery Novel. He manages to poke fun at the genre while simultaneously improving it with his writing. The Sentence is Death, his second novel in a series about a curmudgeonly ex-police officer named Hawthorne, was fantastic. Once again, a fictional version of Horowitz (Anthony) acts as the main character and narrator, and the entire novel is […]

Non-Fiction Round Up

Well, That Escalated Quickly: Memoirs and Mistakes of an Accidental Activist by Franchesca Ramsey

Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide by Karen Kilgariff, Georgia Hardstark

Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou

October 11, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Advice in the age of the internet, and a scary as hell Silicon Valley story. (3 stars) Well, That Escalated Quickly: Memoirs and Mistakes of an Accidental Activist by Franchesca Ramsey I will be the first to admit that I’m not the target audience for this book. Franchesca Ramsey had always hoped to go viral on YouTube, but never expected it would be for her spoof video What White Girls Say… to Black Girls. When that video blew up, she ended up in the center […]

Kissing book round up

Roomies by Christina Lauren

American Royals by Katharine McGee

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

October 11, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Ordered from meh to wow! (3 stars) Roomies by Christina Lauren So this was probably the first Christina Lauren that I didn’t particularly enjoy. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as good as the others I’ve been devouring this summer. A certain amount of disbelief must be suspended when reading book like this, so I didn’t mind the set up in the beginning — I just wasn’t all that wild about how it ended. “Is Jeff right? Am I unable to create anything because I see […]

Waiting for Tom Hanks (a.k.a shut up Annie you don’t deserve a movie star)

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

September 25, 2019 by badkittyuno 2 Comments

Thank you Caitlin_D for doing such a great job putting our thoughts together! Caitlin_D: So when I started to read this book I knew immediately that you need to read it too. And then I remembered I needed someone to write a review with me!! Badkittyuno: I love rom-coms. (Caitlin_D: we both do) In fact, one of my favorite things about my fiance is that he is 100% willing to watch silly romantic movies with me. And as a child of the 90s (and a huge Nora Ephron […]
