The Jupiter War – hard to care

August 5, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

The Jupiter War is the Third part and the conclusion of “The Owner Trilogy” Series by Neal Asher. I normally adore Neal Asher’s writing  – his Ian Cormac Series, the Skinner series, anything with Sniper the War Drone – let me throw my money at him. But I had a hard time with this series. The meta plot: some time in the future- Earth is over populated, the planet’s resources are taxed and a large majority of the people are “zero assets” meaning that […]

Harry Dresden Hits it out of the Park Again

July 3, 2014 by anevilweasel 1 Comment

Nothing better than a Harry Dresden novel narrated by Jim Marsters. Well,  there are better things, but as audio books go, this is the top end. Love that man’s voice. And Dresden Files stories – well  – Jim Butcher just keeps hitting them out of the park. Ok so first things first : if you have never read a Harry Dresden book before, well this is probably not where you want to start. There are like…15 of them. Seriously …go get Storm Front. That’s the […]

Annihilating several hours of my time…

June 17, 2014 by anevilweasel 1 Comment

Annihilation –  the first of a trilogy – is the tale of an expedition into the mysterious “Area X” .  Something happened to Area X a while back  – never explained, very vague. Exactly what or when and what’s wrong with “Area X” is never explained  – at least not in this book. Perhaps in the other parts of the trilogy… Eleven expeditions have gone in to investigate Area X and …really no one has come back out or if they have, they […]

Category Six Adversarial Manifestation….the Weirdness

June 13, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

Category Six Adversarial Manifestation. That’s what it’s called when Lucifer Morningstar  – also known as the Devil, the Prince of Darkness or Satan  – shows up at your apartment brewing you are really nice cup of fair trade coffee. So, our hero Billy is a struggling writer, living in Queens, working in a sandwich shop, recently dumped by his girlfriend and well…he’s a bit of a loser.  He wakes up one morning with the Devil in his apartment, brewing a really awesome cup of […]

An Angel walks into a Bar…and cracks wise…

May 9, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

So…an angel walks into a bar and cracks wise. The Angel Bayliss – who has an obsession with Raymond Chandler noir fiction –  witnesses the  murder of the Archangel Gabriel.  Now that there is a job opening,  he is given the task to find a nice docile replacement angel. Instead, he winds up with Molly – or as he likes to refer to her,  “Flametop”. Molly turns out to be anything but and wastes no time getting into trouble. In addition to being newly […]

Shambling to New Orleans

May 8, 2014 by anevilweasel Leave a Comment

“Shambling into New Orleans with Zoe Norris”.   The second in a series – the first was the “Shambling Guide to New York” where our heroine Zoe discovered the secret world of the “Coterie”.  This hidden world is  made up of zombies, vampires, sprites, incubi, gods, goddesses, etc. who live among us “normals” without our noticing… much. In the first book, Zoe finds herself  working for a publishing house run by  Phil the vampire. Being the only human employee has its challenges, but after […]
