I'm an animal-loving, cold-hating, sky-gazing delicate flower with far more unread books than time to read. My beautiful kitty lost her fight to an aggressive cancer last summer so I'm happy to read to help kick cancer’s butt.

The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves

April 1, 2019 by alphabootoo Leave a Comment

Disclaimer: I received this book as an ARC from St. Martin’s Press as part of a giveaway. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on April 2, 2019. Several months ago I had the opportunity to enter a giveaway for an advance copy of The Girl He Used to Know by Tracey Garvis Graves. I had not read any of the author’s previous books and tend to prefer historical romance to contemporaries (and in fact the author calls this […]

Every romance has a Happily Ever After but this series has sisterhood too

Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt

Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt

Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt

Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt

March 11, 2019 by alphabootoo Leave a Comment

My first review for Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series was not particularly effusive but as I have continued on in the series I have come to appreciate it more. Hoyt tells stories that interweave with various threads being teased in every book. There is a large cast of main characters who generally connect in some way. And while these are romances, with the requisite strapping heroes and irresistable heroines, there is also the Ladies’ Syndicate for the Benefit of the Home for Unfortunate Infants and […]

Notorious Pleasures is the title, not the reading experience

Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt

February 20, 2019 by alphabootoo Leave a Comment

I read the first book in this, the Maiden Lane series, but didn’t do a write up for it before starting book two and now it has sort of evaporated out of my head so I am just going to skip that one and go straight into Notorious Pleasures. Notorious Pleasures deals with Lady Hero Batten, the lovely, proper, and dutiful sister of the Duke of Wakefield, who is about to be engaged to Thomas Reading, the Marquess of Mandeville. The book opens with her […]

“Squirrels again?” “They started it!”

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston

February 16, 2019 by alphabootoo Leave a Comment

I picked up Hot and Badgered solely because of the review by noodlestein’s danger tits, who admitted that she enjoyed it despite not being a fan of paranormal romance. I also tend to avoid that subgenre, but I figured this one might be would be worth a try. It was an interesting read – surprisingly light on the romance and what romance it did have leaned toward sweet rather than raunchy. Most of the story focused on the relationship between the three honey badger sisters, […]

Another Haverston Family novel, another decapitated cover model…

Practically Wicked by Alissa Johnson

February 3, 2019 by alphabootoo 2 Comments

Practically Wicked is the final book in the Haverston Family trilogy and is nice in that we do spend a little more time with the Haverston family in this one – it was odd that they were relegated to secondary characters in the previous book. This is another romance that doesn’t have much in the way of wild plot shenanigans – just a nice, comforting read which was perfect for a sick day when all I wanted to do was curl up with a cup […]

If the Gentleman had been Expected, perhaps she would have had time to apply her remaining eye and the top of her skull.

An Unexpected Gentleman by Alissa Johnson

February 3, 2019 by alphabootoo Leave a Comment

An Unexpected Gentleman is the second book in the Haverston Family trilogy by Alissa Johnson. While I really enjoyed the first book, this one fell flat for me. I think, however, that part of the reason has to do with my state of mind as much as the story itself – I have been sick and not feeling good makes me cranky. I tend to read romances for light escapism and this book didn’t really let me do that so I got irritated with it. […]
