Love Her or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey

September 11, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’m pretty sure I picked up Love Her or Lose Her (2020) by Tessa Bailey because I needed another audiobook for my work commute. I’ve always thought romances were easy to follow, even with driving distractions. And Love Her or Lose Her looked interesting. I found out after I finished, that this is Book 2 of 3 of the “hot and hammered” series. I’m not sure I was looking for “hot and hammered,” but it does explain all of the sex. Sometimes, this book teetered on the edge […]

A family’s struggles…and successes

Becoming Nicole by Amy Ellis Nutt

September 7, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I went on the search for an informative book about transgender issues after an argument with my husband. We’re both pretty liberal, but I’m more idealistic and he’s more into political games. After a political discussion with his brother, my husband decided they’d figured out transgender politics. I disagreed with his assessment, but our argument really highlighted how ignorant both of us were on the subject [although–for the record–he was more ignorant than me 🙂 ] I decided I needed a book, and so my […]

Flying Solo by Linda Holmes

September 5, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I knew of Linda Holmes from her debut novel, Evvie Drake Starts Over. I enjoyed it enough to eventually pick up her second novel, Flying Solo (2022). The story takes place in the same town of her first novel. Laurie Sassalyn grew up in the small town of Calcasset, Maine. She finds herself back there after her Great Aunt Dot passes away. Laurie is volunteered by her family to go through Aunt Dot’s things, so she moves into Dot’s house while she begins to organize everything. Laurie has […]

Kind of a badass

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

September 2, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’ve been trying to find audiobooks for my commute to and from work. It’s not that long of a trip, but I figure I’m better off using the time for good instead of wasting it. The latest audiobook I discovered available at my library was The Bodyguard (2022) by Katherine Center. I’m usually a fan of bodyguard romances because I’m a sucker for a strong, protective guy. However, this book gives us a female bodyguard, and she’s safeguarding a man. Jack Stapleton is a famous actor, and […]

Thanks, Obama

Trust by Hernan Diaz

August 18, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I found Trust (2022) by Hernan Diaz on Barack Obama’s Recommended Reading List. I tend to follow many of Obama’s recommendations, and Trust also won a Pultizer Prize. Trust is the story of Benjamin and Helen Rask: a rather eccentric power couple in New York City. What makes this book more memorable and thought provoking, though, is how we learn about the couple. I think this book is best when you don’t know what you’re getting into. Therefore, if you’re interested in reading the book, I would recommend skipping the rest […]

Youtube and chickens

Chick Magnet by Emma Barry

July 13, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Amazon sucked me into buying Chick Magnet (2023) by Emma Barry. It’s rare that I buy a book (I am a very faithful library user)–but I can’t remember the last time I bought a random romance online. I’m not sure what prompted me, but it must have been cheap and looked fun and new. Nicole Jones, also known as “Chick Nic” is a Youtube influencer and star who focuses her Youtube channel on breeding chickens. Nic has hastily moved across the country to the small town where […]
