Only aiming for a quarter Cannonball this year after miserably failing last year, but I've missed the CBR community and the great work done here!

Ellepkay's Reviews:

So much potential – so little pay off

January 25, 2016 by Ellepkay 5 Comments

Warning: this is a terribly disjointed review about a terrible book. It had potential, but it was all shot to hell. My review is barely coherent and it’s taken me over a week to write it because I can’t articulate properly what sucked so bad about this one. My review is full of questions. Questions I cannot make sense of. God, I hated this book. Jessica is helping launch a new makeup line and needs someone to pose as her boyfriend for a week of […]

A very different type of romance novel

January 17, 2016 by Ellepkay 2 Comments

Where are the half star options?  This is really a 3.5 star book, but I’m always generous and rounded up. This is book 1 in a series of 4, and I bought the whole four book bundle without ever having read this author because the descriptions sounded like so much fun. They are historical romances set in the Victorian era, BUT with non-traditional heroes and heroines, settings outside of England, and there are magical elements involved. This first story takes place in Mongolia, and the […]

Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

January 13, 2016 by Ellepkay 1 Comment

IN A WORLD, where a town of hot, single (and emotionally available) men are just waiting around for women to move there as a way to get their shit together……Maddie Moore has broken up with an abusive boyfriend and lost her job in LA. Her recently deceased mother left Maddie and her two (sequel fodder) estranged sisters shares of a run-down resort in Washington State. Maddie packs it up and heads to the resort to try and make a go of it and get her […]

How Feelings Can Change

January 8, 2016 by Ellepkay 7 Comments

So, that title could refer to the hate-to-love relationship in this book, OR it could refer to my feelings about this book itself. I’m new to reviewing, and the reflection process is very interesting to me. My feelings for the book are all positive, and yet my analysis of the book is pretty negative. I don’t know where that leaves me. The more I think about it the more problems I have with it, and I kind of just want to keep the initial afterglow […]

Or, you can just go read Beth Ellen’s review.

January 5, 2016 by Ellepkay Leave a Comment

It was completely at random that Beth Ellen and I both read and reviewed this one so close together, and our takes on it are remarkably similar. This is a contemporary romance set in Chicago between two neighbors with a little bit of the hate to love theme. Ford is a journalist and Victoria a divorce attorney. Each are very good at their jobs and live for their work. They are both in their early thirties and don’t see themselves settling down with the typical […]

A ‘meh’ story – but with a *good* recommendation at the end

January 4, 2016 by Ellepkay 4 Comments

Plot: Sam Kirk and Delaney (Laney) Michaels have been best friends since they were 12 years old and are now ~30.   They co-started and own an extreme sports magazine and he lives in the apartment above hers. Laney has been in love with Sam for forever and he is a man-whore who loves her only as a friend while having many flings with women he does not take seriously. Laney goes on vacation with her sister’s family and decides that she wants to settle down […]
