The online read The Dino Door by a favorite author of mine, Josh Funk, was enjoyable, but did not WOW me. I do like the very end with the silly image that gives a fourth wall break, in one of the pictures on the bedroom wall of the child, so that boosts the overall simplicity, but getting there was not my thing.
And when I say simple I mean simple as there are maybe a dozen or so words on the pages total. Writing a review means that this book will have more words written about it then it has in the whole story and that includes title, author and illustrator. It is cozy and would be a fun book to have a child read to you if they are in the early stages of learning to read solo. Overall, there is just the idea of a child playing, needing to clean up, is not ready so they take more time to play and use their imagination. Of course, when they are ready, they clean up and go to bed.
Renée Kurilla illustrates this due in May 2026 book (that I read via an online reader) with equally simple and easy to understand images. I think the younger child will like the bold and bright colors and the fact that there is not a lot of text, but this adult reader needed more. I am not going to find a finished copy for my own library, but I will see how the final look is as I am curious how the size will affect the solo reading. I do recommend this for a school/local library as we do need more Funk in the stacks and books we can get kids into reading.
