Recently I found an online reader copy of a title called Summer Solstice Wish by Kate Allen Fox and Elisa Paganelli. They have a prequel or companion Winter Solstice Wish which I remember reading, but was not WOWed by it, but felt that it was enjoyable to read. However, I tried to read Summer, and could not finish it.
Perhaps I was in the wrong mood for it. Perhaps I was not the reader for it. Perhaps I was thinking of Halloween and summer was not cutting it. I am not really sure why I was not into it. However, with that said, I know there will be tons of people who will gobble it up. And not just the sun worshipers. People who teach seasons or people who like rhyming, bouncy text will like it. People who like sweet, simpler stories that while are easy to read are not fluffy will like it. This will be a repeated read all year long.
There is a lot to like and one of the big things is the illustrations. They are pretty and sweet. They remind me of a little kid with a big sunny grin. Which I think is what the author and illustrators were going for. It is happy, fun and it has something that will grab the right reader. I was just not that reader. As it is due later in April 2026, I will have plenty of time to read my online reader copy again as I think this is a book that multiple reads will give you different feelings of like or not so much like.
