Honestly, I don’t know about you but if I see a brown thing (yeah, went there too, but realized it was a log) in cartoon form I tend to look at it and assume I will not be interested in it. And even with the words NOT and BORING that still would not grab my attention. However, for some odd reason I decided to pick up I Am Not Boring: The True-Life Story of a Log by Lena Podesta (due late May 2026) in an online reader copy. Afterall, if it was going to be too over the top, silly or have not an overly bright concept and/or characters nothing said I had to finish or write a review if I did finish.
Well, this book turned out to be a fun and silly book about the adventurous life of a log. Clever text and illustrations adapt the concept for a younger reader, but can go for an older child as well. And of course, there are a few “adult jokes” that are far from inappropriate, but might go over some kids’ heads. We see how exciting a log can be. It is a house, food, shelter and so much more. Things you would probably never think about a log are given to you in a fun, but educational, way.
It is a good treat to read before a nature walk as if you find a log, you can point out how cool it is by finding the things Podesta talks about. But of course, if you read it afterwards that is fine too, as you can say, “oh we saw that or we did not see that” and can plan for your next trip to the natural world.
