When I write a review, I write it out first, so I can organize my thoughts. Sometimes I cannot get to the review right away and need to remind myself of what a book was about. Hello Sleep by Saehan Parc and translated by Selene Bright was one of them. This does not mean it was a bad book, but it was not one that grabbed my attention completely.
The character of Sleep is a happy character that is learning about how to sleep. They make people sleep, but they want to experience it, too. The concept is sweet and funny but I was not really the audience. Maybe it was the minimalistic illustrations or the almost too easy text. Maybe it was a bad day for reading. Yet, I know that there is a huge audience for it and do highly recommend it. There is something about it that is intriguing.
If you like clever and not overly academic, this is it. There is a lot going on. It is not “adult” but has concepts that are slightly older, though it will be able to be adaptable to most ages. I will have plenty of time to read it again via my online reader (as long as it doesn’t “time out” on me) as it is due mid April 2026. Which I also cannot wait for as I am wondering what the final results will be as the book is in a graphic novel format, but also feels as a picture book (the one huge drawback to online readers for me, not knowing the size and shape of the book, I have trouble figuring out dimensions if I’m not looking at it).
