Bear by Himself was not something I wanted to read at first look at the online reader copy cover. But there was something about the Geoffrey Hayes book that kept me coming back to it. And, like many books that at first I am not really sure about, it turned out to be a pleasant experience. It is a nice and cozy book that would be perfect for quiet time reading. The classic look to the illustrations will appeal to the adult and kids will like watching Bear have Me Time.
Because that is what is happening. A lovely little bear just needs some Me Time. They need quiet and relaxation. They need to take walks, relax and have a good time solo. Maybe I really got into it because I really need quiet time myself and particularly that day. Therefore, I would even recommend it to adults to read. It is not a “how to” but a “read me and relax” book. Then you can take the things the bear does and apply them to your needs.
But, of course, it is aimed at kids. And that is why I think this due in mid-November 2025 book is good for the moments when we all need to sit and just have quiet time. I cannot stress enough how important it is as an adult who takes care of little rugrats, I mean lovely children, to have quiet time. Besides, just looking at the images really calms you. While they are good colors they are not “popping hot” or jumping off the pages. They are soft, light colors. There are some light and shadow play, minimal to medium details. It just is slow and steady and comfortable.
