Bingo 21: Review
I may have already had A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons on my TBR before looking up reviews, but turns out I had a pretty similar reaction to Bjornsnipe: https://everyday-offershub.com/2025/10/a-fellowship-of-librarians-dragons-adenashire-book-two-bjornsnipe/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
After we pair of Arleta and Theo in book one, now it’s Doli’s turn. Her backstory is family expectations which seems to have to personal worth questioning, covered up by the sunniest possible of sunny dispositions. Doli might be a baker too, but her focus turns out to be books (she works in a bookshop) and her pair-up match for no real reason is the new hottie in town, gargoyle librarian Sarson. It’s basically love at first sight, no real obstacles to couple-dom except some backstory both parties keep from the other until it’s almost too late. The dragon baby doesn’t really have much to do with anything, other than be reason for Sarson and Doli to spend some time together in various ways, and maybe some comic relief in the way of the sort of chaos you’d get if a 4 month old kitten could fly. Eventually one of the main conflicts is resolved by what we’ll for now call draco ex machina.
It’s almost a little strange how little happens for how long the book is; there’s more in Doli’s head/feelings than actual action. It’s quite a basic story, but it manages to stretch for 253 ½ pages. It might be a little telling that almost every time I saw Doli’s family name “Butterbuckle” I saw ‘Butterbrickle’ first. Of course she has a baking related name, but then again, there’s not as much baking here; some yes, but not nearly the same level as the previous book. So why spend time on the thing that’s not really the focus? There’s kind of a lot of that going on, focused but not focused meandering. Honestly, I”m getting bored, since I’m about 85% sure I can guess how the next several novels go.
