I honestly have nothing to say outside of if you want to follow a thriller that has the main lead do stupid things the whole book, this is the book for you.
“No Exit” follows college student, Darby Thorne who is traveling home to see her mother and sister during a snowstorm that turns into a full fledged blizzard. Darby eventually can’t see and stops at a rest stop. While there, she meets 4 other people. Stepping outside to see if she can get a signal, she thinks she has seen a child locked in a cage in a van. And that means that one of the people at the rest stop is not who they appear to be. Making things worse of course is that with no signal and an almost dead cell phone, and a blizzard that shuts down the state of Colorado for about 8 hours. Darby is now stuck at a rest stop with someone dangerous with no easy way out.
Look, it’s really obvious who the villain is (no spoilers) because it’s revealed very quick. Most of this book is Darby making really bad decisions repeatedly and then insane coincidences happening right after the bad decision. None of the characters we get introduced to in this one really felt very developed. And I don’t even know what to say about the villain (no spoilers) because the whole thing with that plot point was so cartoonish stupid/evil that I just could not get into it.
I think the countdown to when the supposed blizzard is supposed to end was supposed to add tension, but really just annoyed me.
Eventually we get to so many twists I stopped counting and the really bad ending that just had me glad to have finished this book.
I read this for Halloween Bingo 2025 “When Mother Nature Strikes” square.
