“Beyond Her Reach” follows Bree and her deputies after they are called to a murder scene where the victim was practically decapitated. The victim was dealing with a contentious divorce and seemed to have a new boyfriend who wasn’t that into her as she maybe was. The book follows Bree as they try to hunt down the killer before they strike again.
Well I wasn’t in the mood to wait on another book so just swapped this one for a planned read. Eh. This was a very solid Bree Taggert, but not as exciting as prior books. Maybe because the series is winding down and we now have Bree and Matt talking marriage, children, and expanding the farmhouse they live. Also Bree is still dealing with memories of her mother and is trying to unravel the last few months of her mother’s life. The main reason why I gave this 3 stars though is that this should have been showcased as a Bree Taggert and Morgan Dane mystery. A good portion of the book follows Morgan and it just didn’t work as well as when Bree teamed up with Mercy Fitzpatrick from that series. I don’t know what it was, but it really did feel as if I were reading two different books though the same author wrote both series (Bree and Morgan).
Also, I have to say, I need more explanation of what happens to the guilty parties after they arrested. This one had so many holes left unexplained it was just disappointing. Give me a line or something that says so and so agreed to a plea deal and so and so claimed they didn’t know what X was doing. Something.
I read this for Halloween Bingo, “Thriller.”
