This is the 4th book in the cohort series. This post will contain spoilers for the first three books.
After a meteor is tracked to hit planet Earth and kill off every living thing, the only solution is cryosleep. Citizens were randomly chosen to enter cryosleep and wake 200 years later to restart civilization. In the first three books of the series, we hear the stories from Joanna, Charlotte, and Josh’s perspectives. We learn about the chaos that happened as the world was ending, and how people were selected to be the survivors and to enter cryosleep for 200 years. The Bunker Reservation Project (BRP) had ideals for the world after the meteor destroyed civilization. They want a peaceful world without fighting and want to leave all weapons behind. We see how two cohorts prepare for cryosleep and how BRP’s ideals are followed.
Three years after waking, Levi and Joanna have been sent to be envoys to meet with other cohorts throughout what was once the United States. They are promoting peace with the different cohorts. With limited ways of communication, information spreads through word of mouth through cohorts and their radio systems. As Joanna and Levi are visiting a cohort in South Dakota, Eddie asks them to go to Texas to check on the Houston cohort- a cohort that Dallas says did not make it through cryosleep. Wanting to find out for sure what happened, Levi and Joanna make the journey to Houston.
We also see Kate’s perspective. She’s from the cohort that Levi and Joanna are sent to check. Kate’s cohort decided to abandon their cohort and relocate to an island. As a group, they have decided to isolate themselves from everyone else, not even knowing if other cohorts had woken as they should have. The leader of this cohort is very strict, nearly everything is considered violent. I wish there had been a little bit more to the ending after all the build-up throughout the book, but overall, I really enjoyed this book and series.
