I found a series awhile back that I thought was one of the best I had read. It was Jackson’s Wilder Adventures by Sarah Davidson. It was clever and unique. A young boy, Jackson, and his Calvin and Hobbesesque Hobbes, called Irwin the Thylacine, were the perfect narrators. Davidson mixed time travel in a Dr. Who manner with fun educational facts. Granted, there is no actual Tardis (and/or fill in your favorite doctor), just an old cardboard box, but the adventures were as fun. We learn about nature while learning a life lesson.
In volume two, Dentistry and Dreams, this fantastic series teaches about issues such as growing up, moving to a new apartment, losing your first tooth, and how the natural world is used as an example to the human narrator’s situation. It is clever, funny, fun and can be adapted to multiple ages. There are bright, colorful illustrations that are “bubbleish” and a mix of busy and not so much with their details. The balance is enjoyable to view. You do not have to read volume one, Habits and Habitats, but I do recommend it.
I need approximately another 100 words to fill a full review. Therefore I could say, “I like it, I love, I want more of it” but that is just redundant to the fact I used words such as best, fantastic and clever. I can tell you that I read it via an online reader copy and that it is due soon/sometime in mid June 2025, and that is dull and does not represent the fun you will find in the actual book. And that fun does not end with just the actual graphic novel set story, but there are extras at the end as well.![]()
