Do you remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books? (FYI: they still have them. ) Anyway, at first, I thought that the book, Double Booking: The Tail of the Mummy Cat by Pangburn, Kim Shearer and Nic Touris, was going to be one of them when I found an online reader copy of it (though currently available). I figured, well this will be interesting to try and read. Thankfully (or maybe not thankfully depending on if you think it might be fun to try a “jump to page X” on the computer) it was not a Choose Your Adventure book. It was, however, a Two Point of View story that is not told in the usual back and forth chapter. No, this book took a chapter from the CYOA books (in a way) and has story one running front to back, then you flip the book and read the second version of the same story front to back. Thankfully they (the powers that be) came out and said if you are reading the physical book, flip, but if you’re reading via a computer, it will flow a natural flow and you won’t need to flip your screen or computer.
Telling the dual story this way is an interesting way to tell the story. We have our brother and sister team (Nan and Otto, who are two very opposite people) have their same story (with some differences and overlap) told. I am not sure if Otto’s or Nan’s story should be read first, (I just went the way it came on the screen) but it is an interesting trip. I think you probably should start with younger brother Otto, but don’t let me tell you how to read it!
Bubbly, bold and colorful illustrations bring to life not only a current day Art Camp, but the sandy desert of Egypt, and not to mention an actual mummy or two. Our siblings take different directions to explore (Otto less willingly than Nan) but in the end they come together to save the day, make new friends and deal with their mother, the blogger.
