Occasionally I will promote a publisher overall and tell you just read anything from them and you will get a hit. Then I will tell you about the individual title(s) I have read. Still, you know that what I read and/or liked (or even dislike) might or might not be the read for you. It is just going to be fun to explore what they have.
Science Comics: Crows: Genius Birds by Kyla Vanderklugt is by one of these publishers, First Second. (Side note, they have/will have a more adult print, so I am sure some of the books originally from First Second will move over with many many new books I’ll just blankly recommend as it is from the “same” publisher.) The format is a fun way to learn about crows and similar birds. However, the non fiction elements are countered with a fiction setting as well. There are two characters (a crow and a dog) who were not my favorite presenters of the facts. Yet, it is realistic and it helps keep the “just the dull facts” from being just “dull facts” and actually silly and memorable.
If you like birds, animals, or want to learn about the flying genius, this is a good introduction. Then you have the minimalistic illustrations that keep the focus on the story/the facts, but allows it to flow smoothly and gives you breaks to “see” what they are talking about. Sometimes things can get a little bogged down, but overall it is a good read. Even as an adult I learned new things.
