When I post a review, I try to write out my review first. I was making the final tweaks, and slipped, and the entire review of It’s Your Weirdness That Makes You Wonderful: A Self-Acceptance Prompt Journal (Positive Mental Health Teen Journal) disappeared! However, this makes for a great restart as I really could have used the journal to get some of my frustrations out. Because one could have (I could have) easily gone down a rabbit hole of “I’m no good.” “How could I be stupid and make that mistake?” The journal is to help you organize those thoughts, feelings and more.
I believe Kate Allan (of The LatestKate fame) has published this journal before (I am finding two covers: one a rainbow, psychedelic sloth; the other a light colored unicorn), but that does not take away from the coolness for me (I have it in the sloth cover). This is a “one time use” journal, (unless you copy the page or there are extra pages you can use for the prompts in this edition, or for later uses), about the feel-good-feelings Allan prompts. They have “happy little thoughts” about being okay when the time is right, or today is a bad day but not a bad life, and they are accompanied by rainbows and goulashes wearing bears, bats, bunnies, bees, badgers and more. We have prompts that you organize your thoughts about such things as how you deal with stress, what is causing that stress, and lists of things that are stressful.
There are places you can say what you want to yourself about the subject being talked about. I am assuming that any of the illustrations that pepper the book are going to be black and white (I had an online reader copy for this edition). But you can go to their website and sign up for their daily newsletter for their work in color. While this book is aimed at older teens to adults you could adapt it for your audience, but some things won’t fit such as questions and activities about your work/job/career.
Yes, it is a mindful, thoughtful, sweet journal, but anyone could use it even if you consider yourself an old grump. I do feel that females are more likely to be drawn to this journal, but honestly, the activities are great for anyone who needs them.
