Chloe and Maude, written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton, is a cute early reader in the line of Frog and Toad or other best friend silliness. The art of Boynton has all the feels she is known for. This is a collection of a handful of short stories that include two besties, Chloe and Maude. They do best friend things, have fun, even pretend. For the adult reader, things are oversimplified and repetitive, but this is good for the early/starting to read solo reader and/or someone who needs a little assistance in the reading arena. You could even use it as a multiple bedtime story book as each chapter is a story within itself and can be a good stopping spot.
Overall, this is not a WOW book for me, but I really had fun with it. The art of Boynton is out and about. She is a bit on the minimalist side of details, but still is never lacking. The colors will pop off the page and the personalities of the characters come alive. We enjoy these stories of two very different cats and celebrate those differences, while also finding ways to come together in the middle.
Though the book is currently available, I read it via an online reader copy. What I cannot read via an online reader copy is Sandra Boynton’s Every Day’s a Fabulous Holiday 2026 Wall Calendar. This calendar is planned for June 2025 and I am very tempted to put in a preorder for it. The point is, regardless of where you are with your reading or love of The Sandra Boynton World, there is something for everyone. Including a new hardcover for Christmas, A Dance with Santa Claus (mid October 2025) and a new board book When Pigs Fly!: A Song for Dreamers (late August 2025).
