Nightsong by Sally Soweol Han is a story about a young boy who is tired of visiting the adults with his adult (assuming mother). But soon it is time to go home and the adult and child head for the bus, hop on and are leaving the city behind. Until the wheels on the bus don’t go round and round, and one needs to be fixed. A long day got longer, but our young boy decided to listen to the sounds around him and explore instead of standing around waiting.
Here is where you can forget most of the text (it is minimalist to start) and just look at the illustrious. The colors are pastel, bright, but also soft and just capture nature almost in a child-like (not childish) manner. It is all simple, cute and the colors are used to express something the author wants you to see such as purple critters and yellow light bugs. It might not be a WOW book, but it is a clever and fun read.
Due late May/early June 2025 the book will be ready for the summer. It could be used as a guide for your own listening to the songs that nature provides us. You could read it outloud to a small crowd or I think it might be best for one-on-one reading. An early reader with or without need of help could also do a solo read.
I read it via an online reader copy, but I think I might be giving it to a few friends and family as a gift.
