here is the issue I just do not remember enough of what happened in this book, and since it’s been literally six months+ since I finished it (or so Goodreads tells me, I Do. Not. Recall) it’s a very slim chance that I will remember more of it by staring very intently at my computer screen. SO, down a rabbit hole I go, trying to find reviews written by fellow readers who provide spoilers. Except, of course, everyone is being kind and staying as spoiler free as possible, so that you can enjoy the book yourself!
Note to self: write reviews in a timely fashion.
Self: very funny.
Here’s what I do remember:
– Wendell and Emily’s romance is fun and not the entire point of the book, which is nice because sometimes romantasy becomes all romance. Also, I would be horrified if these books had anything approaching a proper sexytimes scene, because Emily writing about that in her journal seems bizarre
– side note I can also imagine her writing down a reckoning in an attempt to “improve” or “find solutions” which, funny
– Wendell keeps asking Emily to marry him, a rare-ish trope that I love–it takes the GASP out of the moment, and makes it a very calm and casual ask which is quite a bit more true to life
– Wendell is, of course, not just a Fae but a King Fae, which is that other trope of “the romantic partner is secretly WEALTHY/POWERFUL/SPECIAL,” except I’m all in for it
– Emily has gotten tenure! Yay Emily! And she’s written her book and continues to do research and stays in touch with the friends(?) she made last book, and uses her extensive knowledge of fae to save the day
Look end of day I’m reading the next book, and this time I WILL remember to review it sooner.
