Do you love illustrations or graphic novels? Do you also love cryptids? Then you should read Cryptid Club by Sarah Andersen.

It’s a collection of adorable comics about cryptids. I loved how most of the supposed monsters or aliens are sensitive types and often simply antisocial. We get little vignettes about aliens, Mothman, ghosts, sasquatch, Loch Ness, and more. Most of the characters look harmless and anxious.
It felt like a collection of funny facts about cryptids. You can run through rather quickly. There isn’t much of a narrative arc with the stories, but some continuing themes. I especially liked how colorful the stories were. We get to see inside the minds of monsters for quick laughs or musings. I liked most of the stories, but a few didn’t land on me. Because I wasn’t familiar with the lore behind some of the cryptids, I wondered if that was why some didn’t connect with me.
I couldn’t tell if this was written aimed at adults or children. I think both can enjoy it. I came across this on Hoopla and am interested in re-reading the physical book. I will definitely read more books by Sarah Andersen. I loved this cartoon style and her sense of humor. It reminded me a bit of Liz Climo’s comics but with a darker edge. I’ve had my eye on Fangs for quite a while since I love all things vampires.
Read this if you’re mildly curious about cryptids. With Andersen’s art style, you’ll get a taster of the lore and hopefully a few laughs.
