This is apparently the first in a series of Marvel adult crime thrillers. I was just glad to spend some time picturing Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones again. Bring her back Marvel!

In true Jessica Jones fashion, our friend is not doing so great. She spends her days fighting a killer hangover and solving crimes in New York City, One morning a wealthy mother comes to her door asking for Jessica’s help. She’s convinced something strange happened to her teenage twins when they were visiting their father for the summer. They’ve come home from England acting strangely, looking flawless, and overusing the word perfect. As Jessica has prior experience with “superhero” stuff, she’s perfectly placed to figure out what’s going on.
I impulse grabbed this at the library because I had enjoyed the Netflix series so much and was bummed when it was cancelled. The author does an amazing job conjuring up Jessica’s world. I was a little afraid that this would be a generic thriller with Jessica’s name subbed in for the heroine and was pleased that that is very much not the case. Unfortunately for me the middle very much dragged. It felt like the author was trying to drop little breadcrumb hints but for me they were too little. I was figuring out where things were going but instead of little confirmations to keep me hooked I was still getting hints. I was about 3/4ths of the way through the book when I realized that I had read several of the author’s previous works and had a similar experience with them- begin reading, slow middle, wild explosion of an ending.
