“You can know things all you like, but that doesn’t mean you believe them.”
This is the sequel to The War that Saved My Life, and the events are simply a continuation on the plot of the 1st book. World War II is still going on, and Ada and Jamie have settled in more with Susan. However, when they end up sheltering a German Jew, Ada is uncertain of what to do and how to react.
This book was great. It was a good continuation on the plot of the 1st book, and, unlike I usually do, I’m not sure if I liked the 1st one better. Honestly, they were fairly equal since they were both great books, with great plots, suitable for different ages. Similar to the 1st book, while it was written for a younger audience, it can be enjoyed by people of different ages, especially if they keep in mind the intended audience.
Overall, this book and the series as a whole was fantastic. Ada, while annoying at times, is a great character, as are the rest of the characters. As a whole, they were multidimensional and interesting, even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jaime’s character. To me, he was a little basic, but I understand that he was supposed to convey innocence and childlike wonder, so it would make sense for him to be somewhat basic.
Other than that, it was an exceptional book. 4 stars, would recommend to anyone, but especially late elementary or early middle schoolers, which is around the time I first read and really enjoyed this series.
