CBR 16 Bingo – Games: This whole series is centered around games and puzzles. Also it’s in the title.
Avery is simply living her life, trying to make it through high school, get a scholarship, and get out when she receives a mysterious invitation to the reading of the will of billionaire Tobias Hawthorne. He leaves her the majority of his inheritance, even though she doesn’t know who she is and has never met the man in her life. To receive this inheritance, Avery has to stay in the Hawthorne House, a sprawling mansion, for a year, living with the newly disinherited Hawthorne family, while she tries to discover why she was left this money and how she is connected to the Hawthorne family.
I loved this book. The mystery, puzzles, games, and plot in general were all very engaging and made me want to keep reading. The characters were all multi-dimensional, and the whole time I just wanted to know more. I really enjoyed how everything was connected and how, in the end, I knew enough to be able to sleep that night, but I still wanted and needed to read the rest of the series. The writing style also contributed to the overall reading experience, and it was just such an interesting and satisfying book. I really enjoy mystery books because I like being able to connect the pieces, and this book did just that.
Overall, great book. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone and everyone since it was just such an engaging book with so many layers, twists, and puzzles to be solved. It is one of the best mysteries I’ve read lately, 4.5 stars.
