CBR 16 Bingo – Golden: A main theme in the series is economic status and money in general.
Being a sequel, it’s hard to summarize or give a synopsis of this book without spoiling the first one, but it’s really just a continuation on the plot of the 1st book, with Avery trying to stay alive long enough to inherit the money, and solve the mystery as to why she was the heiress in the first place.
This was a pretty solid sequel. Usually, the middle book in a trilogy is the worst one, and I would agree with that for this series, but that doesn’t mean it was bad. The first book was spectacular, and this one was really good, but I just didn’t think it was on the same level. The characters and the plot were still great, but I found the puzzles, riddles, and mystery to be a bit less puzzling in this book, which made it a bit less enjoyable.
I would still strongly recommend it, and I still really enjoyed it. It’s not a scenario in which I would tell a friend to read the first book, and then stop because the second one is terrible, it just wasn’t up to the standards of the first one.
However, overall, it was still good, I still really enjoyed it, and I would definitely read it again. Similar to the first book, some things were solved and others were left until the 3rd book, which, again, I really enjoyed. It caused the book to feel complete since, as much as I love an open-ended ending where things are left up for interpretation, I’m not the biggest fan of total cliffhangers. This book, and The Inheritance Games, both satisfied both of those things, which, along with the plot, writing style, and puzzles, made me really enjoy them.
