I got this book for my birthday purely because I do, often, judge books by their covers. The cover on this book was absolutely gorgeous. All of us have fallen victim to judging a book by its cover, I just didn’t expect it to work out so well in my favor this time.
This book is about a young woman who works in a bookstore. She has befriended one of the regulars, who she talks to quite a bit. Until he dies in the bookstore, leaving her a book. This book allows her to open a door to anywhere, so long as she can imagine it. The only issue is the many people who hunger after the very book she now holds.
To start, this book was amazingly cozy. The writing, unironically, was like a cup of tea by a warm fire. The descriptions of the setting, a bookstore, were absolutely fantastic; I was almost immediately in love. The characters that we meet in the beginning are also just very sweet and innocent. This is contrasted in the latter half of the book, where several of the characters are cold and uncaring. This just shows Brown’s range in terms of writing characters, as every character is realistic and motivated in their own way.
I read this book for as long as it took to finish it, which I think was around a day, but I truly could not put it down. It was a fantastic book that I would pay good money to forget, just so I could read it again.
