CBR 16 Bingo – Smash: Rom-com (romance+comedy)
I picked up this book from the library, looking for a quick, light, easy read. I knew I probably wasn’t going to love it, but I honestly just needed a filler book while I was waiting for a few holds to come in, so I read it.
This book follows Millie and Tag. Millie is a debate champion who doesn’t care about the sexist bullies that want to ruin her reputation, and is about to set records by winning states. Tag doesn’t care about debate, as long as the side he believes in wins. They get thrown together and have to help each other, or at least work together.
I’ve probably made it clear by now that I am not the biggest fan of romance books, but I needed something to read and I’ve been trying to branch out, so I gave it a try. It was advertised as a rom-com, but, to my disappointment, it wasn’t funny. Otherwise, the book was alright, but I was expecting there to be at least an attempt at humor, seeing as comedy is part of rom-com, but I couldn’t find it.
Other than the lack of comedy, it was solidly alright, I didn’t love any of the characters, but I didn’t mind them either. The plot was somewhat interesting, but not my favorite. I did enjoy the writing style, but, otherwise, at least for me, this book didn’t really have anything going for it.
Also, I was honestly just salty about the lack of comedy after reading it.
