CBR 16 Bingo – Tech: Set in the future where they have a lot of new and interesting tech.
“My greatest wish for humanity is not for peace or comfort or joy. It is that we all still die a little inside every time we witness the death of another. For only the pain of empathy will keep us human. There’s no version of God that can help us if we ever lose that.”
My brother recommended that I read this book and given that he had given a few good recommendations in the past, I listened and picked it up, and didn’t put it down.
Scythe tells the story of Rowan and Citra, two teenagers in a world that has conquered death. Now, they have scythes who end lives for population control, since all natural forms of death have been eradicated. Citra and Rowan are both selected to be scythes, although neither wants the role, and must learn to kill or be killed.
This book was absolutely amazing. It not only discusses immortality, but also government, AI, and what makes people human. The characters were great, the story was so well-rounded, and it was an incredibly enjoyable read. Not only was it interesting, but it also made you think, which is a phenomenal quality in a book.
This was completely top-tier. Honestly just stupendous. I could not recommend this enough, and I don’t even know what to say about it. The world was such a great concept, and it was so detailed. This book as a whole was just so remarkable, I don’t even know what to say other than just that you need to read this book if you haven’t already. 5 stars.
