CBR 16 Bingo – Part 2: The second instalment in the series.
Since Simon died, there have been many gossip blogs trying to copy his, but none as interesting as this new one, which, instead of being a blog, it’s a game of truth or dare. The first target learns that if you refuse to play it is an automatic truth, and chaos ensues from there. People are making their choices, and one, eventually, results in death, causing a new mystery at Bayview High.
Personally, I enjoyed this book a lot less than the first. It was different (sort of) , which some sequels to mysteries struggle with, but it wasn’t better. The mystery itself was less interesting, and the characters were also less enjoyable. Also, while the mystery itself was mostly different, it was a little bit too similar to the first in some aspects, which made it seem like the author was trying and failing to connect the books.
However, the writing style was still good, it was still suspenseful, and it did still make me want to keep reading, even though I enjoyed it less. 3.5 stars since it wasn’t bad, but it could have been better. I personally don’t think the first book needed a sequel since it had a good ending and there wasn’t much potential for recurring characters, meaning there had to be either a recurring type of mystery, which is kind of boring, or a recurring location, which can be done well, but it wasn’t in this case.
Overall, it could have been better, but it also could have been much worse, but, in all honesty, we never really needed it in the first place.
