CBR 16 Bingo – Part 1: The first book in what I originally thought was a duology but actually isn’t. It’s still the 1st part, even if it isn’t out of 2 parts.
You know a book has my interest if the description on Goodreads starts with “Pay close attention and you might solve this.” It tells the story of 5 kids all stuck in detention. However, only 4 make it out of the classroom alive. The police believe the death wasn’t an accident. Yet, the question of who is responsible remains…
This was a great book, and I really enjoyed it. As I usually do with mysteries, I tried to solve it alongside the characters, and, in this case, I was wrong. While some might be disappointed when they’re wrong, it honestly makes me like a book even better because it’s really fun when something you never could have seen happening happened, and that’s the case with this book.
I liked the characters and how they seemed one-dimensional at the start but, as you went along, you realized that they had layers and were actually really multidimensional and well-created characters. There was something addictive about the book that made me just want to keep reading “just one more chapter,” and it was honestly just remarkable.
Unlike a lot of YA thrillers and mysteries, it, instead of relying on tropes, relied on debunking and breaking the tropes which was great. However, since doing that consistently would have been to predictable, it also followed a few tropes. It was just so well thought out and well written, and was overall a really enjoyable read.
