CBR 16 Bingo – Part 2: The 2nd 2 sections of Dune (the last approximately 300 pages)
I already reviewed the 1st half of Dune for Part 1, this is the 2nd half.
To start, I would like to warn anyone that hasn’t read this yet that between Dune and Muad’dib there is a time jump, so that you don’t spend 50+ pages being confused since it doesn’t say that there was any sort of time jump. Looking back, I probably should have known given people’s ages, but I was still confused and didn’t know what was happening for a bit.
Once I got over that, I enjoyed the 2nd part of this book, but not as much as the 1st. It was more action packed, which was nice, and the ending of the book was not my favorite, but it arguably a good ending. I found that the second half was a lot easier to understand than the first, probably because I understood the characters and what was happening.
I appreciated how Paul developed over the course of the book, especially due to his circumstances, but I didn’t entirely like how he developed. I feel like he became more self-centered and, even though he did mature from the start and was selfless in the end, I found him to be a little arrogant in this half.
Overall, I really liked the book as a whole, but I found the first half to be more enjoyable than this one, probably for the same reason that I always prefer the first book of the series, which is that I just like the introduction and immersion into the world. Although I appreciated that there was more action in this half, I generally prefered the 1st half and would give this one 3.75 stars, instead of the 4 I gave the first.
