CBR 16 Bingo – Earth day: Relevant to global politics, a book that’s fairly universally recognized.
“Can you not understand that liberty is worth more than just ribbons?”
I’m sure that many of us have had to write about or analyze the political aspect of Animal Farm sometime through our education, so I’ll spare everyone from that and skip to the good part.
Animal Farm is the story of a farm known as Manor Farm that is owned by Mr. Jones, until the animals rebel and overthrow him, creating their own government and renaming the farm to Animal Farm, for it is the only farm in England, or perhaps worldwide, that is run solely by animals. However, the leadership turns into a communist government with clear problems, propaganda, and a very distinct and unfair class system.
Even thought it’s the type of book one would have to read and analyze and probably write an essay about, Animal Farm is actually an enjoyable read, especially when you don’t have to do those things because it is both something that will never happen (given that the animals create their own government) and something that has already happened (since it is very strongly based on Russia history).
Overall, I enjoyed and would strongly recommend this book, even though it is not my usual style, especially if you would get the Russian history references. Even if you wouldn’t it is still a good book and really helps contextualize some history and politics. 4 stars, it was very enjoyable and a nice quick read.
