I hadn’t even finished the first five pages of Mutant Cats, Volume 1 and I was wondering if I should finish it. Or even if I could. There were some nasty images on those first few pages and I was just finishing up a tuna sandwich, so things in the ol’ tum were becoming not happy (totally ruined my lunch, too). Yet, I said, give it a chapter.
Well, I finished that chapter and decided I’ll do my best to finish it as it had some funny moments (like when someone meant the S word they said turd instead. And that’s funny because you knew what was happening, but it is not vulgar), but I’m not holding out a lot of hope for it. You see, there is some language, really gross-out mutant cats (like if Garbage Pail Kids and Roman Dirge got together and had an acid trip baby) and the head of HR who has a potty mouth that would make a sailor blush, and she can talk the talk.
I thought Roman was disturbed, but Matthew Medney, Morgan Rosenblum, and Alex Arizmendi are really disturbed. A cat with a brain hanging out. A cat with multiple eyes on its face and body. A patchwork, stuffing falling out cat. And not to mention the gorilla guards (one is a stone-like being, the other multiple colors and spots on fur and face) unique qualities. And these are the tame ones. The intern that is going to cause the story is goop and ooze and distortions.
So the story itself (from what I’ve read and the publisher description) is that these cats (an oddball group of scientists) have created a form of renewable energy. It is called The Cluster. And of course when you have a Cluster you have a Cluster Fudge. Only I didn’t say fudge. I am going to guess chaos ensues, lots of messes happen and hopefully it all works out in the end. I’m guessing some romance and/or sex, lot more dumbness from the boss and the intern gets either fired or saves the day, too.
Currently available, this thriller/horror/science fiction cluster is being read as an online reader. Publisher description says aged 16 and up. I just say, “Know Your Audience” and assume it is not “friendly” for everyone regardless of age.
